Love Of Oats

A blog dedicated to balancing a healthy and fun life… with oats!

Monkey Oats!

Happy Saturday ya’ll!  I had every intention of heading to the 8am spinning class until I woke up with a massive headache/dizziness… So I laid in bed and told myself, ok you’ll go to the 9:15am spinning class instead… When I finally got up I was still not feeling right, so I ditched the spinning idea and thought I’d go just to do weights and some light walking…  Before I left, I had my first Cliff Z Bar chocolate brownie flavor ~ it was heavenly… I smeared some pb on it on my way out and I think I found a new “dessert”…

Well, my light walking turned into 15 minutes of running (alternating running 1:30, walking 1) and then 15 minutes on elliptical… and then a series of lower body weights… I was so proud of myself that I could do 155 lbs. leg press!  :)   My HRM said I burned 400 calories too, not bad for a “mild” workout… Oh on another note, I got my body fat measured at the gym… it said 20% which they said was very good… I was glad to hear that because I had no idea whatsoever about what my body fat would be… I have a mini bet with myself to keep up the lifting & running (and healthy eating) and to go back on May 1st (or around there) and see if I have dropped it down at all… I don’t want to go too low, but I would be happy with seeing a little bit of a change!

When I got home, I showered real quick and then made a delishously new combo of oats… I call them “monkey” oats because it reminded me of my favorite tropical drink (i’ve gotten this in every tropical country i’ve been to):  a dirty monkey!  I started w/ 1/2 cup of oats microwaved them, added a chopped up banana, some sunflower seeds & peanuts, and 1/2 scoop of my new GNC whey isolate chocolate protein powder, which I know a lot of you had asked me my opinion about it, well TWO THUMBS UP… Anyway, I popped it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds and definitely ENJOYED it… it was SO good and the perfect mix of yumminess w/ the benefits of protein & good carbs… The only thing I just realized was I forgot to add my flax seed :(   Oh well…

I still feel kind of blah and dizzy/headache-y… not sure what is going on w/ me, I just hope I’m not getting sick…Now I am going through our “potential registry list” and enjoying some coffee… We are going to head to Bed, Bath, and Beyond today to take an initial stab at our registry… I’m sadly not looking forward to it, I’m afraid I won’t pick the right things or I’ll miss something, but maybe once I get there I will get in the swing of things and get excited hehe… I’ll be back to post after our “shopping trip”!  Enjoy your weekend :)

I thought I would leave a comment on body fat percentage since I am currently experiencing problems with my own. While some women’s bodies can handle very (sometimes extremely) low body fat percentages, the vast majority of women, especially those who exercise regularly, need at least 20-22% body fat in order to menstruate properly. After the effects of too little body fat become obvious, it can take as many as six months to regain normal periods, during which time the bones are robbed of calcium, as oestrogen (the primary hormone involved in regulating menstruation) is vital for calcium absorption in women. I know that some methods of body composition testing are not entirely accurate, so your actual body fat percentage my be a little higher (or lower) than 20%, but please be careful. Remember that it is better to be safe than sorry!

    Hi!

Thanks for showing us what you look like! You are so pretty!

Good to know about the protein powder.

You should pat yourself on the back. It’s Saturday and you could’ve very easily gotten out of working at all, but you kicked butt! I hope you feel great for it.

    Have a great Easter!

Julz ~ LOL you crack me up w/ the “hallelujah”… I definitely have to give that a try, it sounds so good, especially since I have a weakness for all things “graham” (especially s’mores!)… Thanks for the sweet comments about the registry ~ I will be back w/ a full report as to how it went!

You’re first ZBar, how exciting! And even more exciting is starting out your gift registry :) Don’t stress about it! It’s a kitchen lover’s paradise and just enjoy every moment of it, it’s so special, Linds!

OH, and if you liked the chocolate brownie one, try the Honey Graham! Microwaved with a touch of pb/mashed banana and put in some yogurt or froyo (even better!!!) (Cue church choir’s Hallelujah) There are no words, it’s So good!
