Love Of Oats

A blog dedicated to balancing a healthy and fun life… with oats!

Cold = Not Filling?

Happy Wednesday All!  Can you believe we’re half way through the workweek already?

I woke up to another sunny morning luckily (although I hear the rain is greeting us tomorrow thru the weekend!) so I decided to have a cold breakfast since it’s suppossed to hit 80 today… I had a cup of kashi Go Lean with some ground flax and half a chopped banana… yum!  This hit the spot, especially with the crunch factor, although for some odd reason, I am already feeling hungry again… Maybe I am missing the warmth from oats?

My mid-morning snack is a good old staple… 0% yogurt & 1/4 cup Kashi Go Lean… I know I already had a serving of this today, but I simply can’t find a better substitute for a yogurt mix-in… I can’t eat it plain (because I feel hungrier) and I am addicted to this combination… I have to think of another crunchy/filling mix-in soon!

On a side note, tomorrow my mom and I are going to go out to dinner for Mother’s Day… since my grad school graduation is on Mother’s Day and we are all going out to eat to celebrate that, I wanted to take her out separately because we normally go out for “tea” at a local tea place near us, so we won’t get to do that this year :(   However, we’re trying to think of some different places to go that are both delicious & healthy… Anyone have any good ideas in terms of chain restaurants (since obviously location is an issue)?  We are currently leaning towards PF Changs or Bonefish Grille!

Ew, the rain just game here and it’s very disappointing to drop 25 F in one day!

I find that cold cereal makes me hungrier sooner than oatmeal too! Maybe the temperature plays a role?

I love P.F. Chang’s – particularly the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce or the Kung Pao Chicken. You can’t go wrong with pretty much anything there though! HAVE FUN! :)

    Romina ~ I agree… back to oats I go!

Cara ~ Yeah I have a slight feeling we will wind up at PF Changs ha… glad to hear I’m not alone!

Hannah ~ ooo my mom loves Applebee’s so I will definitely tell her about your experiences haha…

VeggieGirl ~ Aww I’m sorry to hear your finals week is dragging! good point about the “stick” to your ribs comment! We have a CPK about 45 mins but w/ rush hour traffic we probably have to do something a little bit closer, but I appreciate the suggestion!

Ashley ~ Hmm I’ll have to try that… I am not a fan of coconut though so I’m a little iffy :) Yum, the pb+banana add-ins sound really good ~ like a sundae!

RhodeyGirl ~ I am about 35 minutes away but it will be rush hour so kind of nuts down there, because I have to take 95… However, i will keep that recommendation in mind for the next time I am in that area, which will probably be soon! That is interesting you say that about starches because last night I just had pasta/bruschetta, not much protein… I wonder if that’s why?!!!! Maybe you solved my problem hehe…

I don’t know how far you are from center city philly or if you are willing to go someplace on the more expensive side but Waterworks by the art museum is AMAZING. One of the best restaurants I have been to down there… just an idea!

RE: Hunger.. Whenever I eat something starchy for dinner without a lot of protein I am always hungrier the next day! I don’t know why that happens, but it always happens to me.

PF Changs is the best. I agree with Hannah on the Coconut Curry with Tofu. It is THE BEST dish! Have fun!

As for yogurt mix-ins, I totally understand what you mean. Sometimes I like a scoop of PB and/or a chopped frozen banana?

Actually, I CAN believe it’s Wednesday – with finals, the week is not going by very quickly, haha.

They don’t call oatmeal a “stick-to-your-ribs” meal for nothing – it’s ALWAYS more filling than cold cereal!! And since it doesn’t have as much sugar, it also keeps you feeling more satisfied than the cold stuff.

Do you have a California Pizza Kitchen near you? Lots of great options there!

If you go to P.F. Changs, you’ve gotta try the coconut curry veggies/tofu! I worked at applebees for a while, wouldn’t really reccomend going there though!

No idea on the restaurant, although I do like pf changs. mmm. the item I love there though is really fatty. Oh well. haha.

I also do not feel very full when I eat cold things either. weird.

Theres just something about waking up and eating something warm. Nothing worse than getting out of a warm bed to eat something cold!!
