TGIF is definitely right! I went into work a little later than normal today which was a nice change. I was able to fold a load of laundry, put away pots and pans that were sitting in our drying rack, get my lunch together, comment and read blogs, and watch part of Good Morning America – it was amazing! Normally I wake up at 5:30, out the door by 6:20, at work by 7, but today I got up at 6 and didn’t leave for work until 7:45. It was a huge difference and very enjoyable
Anyway, I actually drank my pumpkin spice coffee with skim out of a coffee cup and not a travel cup so I thought I’d photograph the pretty breakfast picture since it’s a rarity.
This yummy bowl of oats included 1/2 cup serving with flax, chopped almonds, and pom seeds. I was in the mood for something sweet so I added a sprinkle of brown sugar to the bowl. It was a fabulous way to start the day I must say!
My breakfast held me over quite well and I didn’t need to eat the banana that I packed for mid-morning. I packed leftovers (tuna patties and broccoli, cauliflower) from last night’s dinner for lunch today since I liked them so much. On the side I ate the leftover banana… For those of you who asked, I seasoned my tuna patties with crushed black pepper and lots of Old Bay – it definitely reminded us of crab cakes, but easier!
I realized I was still hungry and had two gingersnaps which I forgot to snap a picture of…
Mid-afternoon, I’m planning on having a Yogurt Honey Peanut Balance Bar to fuel me through spinning. I’m taking the 5:30-6:15 class, which I’m not a huge fan b/c the teacher is easy, but I didn’t want to run again (since I did yesterday and it seems to bother my knees if I do back-to-back days).
Tonight Bill and I will probably throw together a quick dinner and then we are heading over our friends’ house and bringing milkshakes from a local 50′s themed shop that they requested them from – they make the most amazing shakes and all the ice cream is homemade (my fave is pb oreo!). I’m hoping to order the healthiest concoction possible (either splitting one w/ Bill OR ordering a float using lf fro-yo and diet soda).
Anyone have any recommendations for me?
I’ll be back w/ our dinner and dessert choice later! Hope you’re having a great day!

I know you no longer count calories, but would you mind throwing out a ballpark estimate for, not necessarily today’s total thus far, but a “typical” day? I read your posts that say things like “I only wanted to eat half but it was so good I had to eat the rest” etc and I just sometimes get the feeling that you are just geared up for when you can eat your next meal/snack. This is not to sound accusatory; I’m truly curious and any negative vibes are really just the ones that I feel about my on unheatlhy eating that I’m probably superimposing onto you. Like I know, for example, that you LOVE bbq, and when you eat it I see you say I had 2/3rds or whatever it was, and I just think oh damn, she should have shoveled it all in because she eats so healthy overall! Sorry, I hope this post makes sense. Great blog!
Hi Lily! Don’t worry I didn’t think of your comment as accusatory
I love the feedback to be honest. Although I don’t count calories, I try to eat within moderation. Reading the book Fit From Within was super helpful and really allows me to focus on the principles in there regarding eating. When I make comments like that about only wanting to eat half but eating the whole thing is because I know what should fuel me in terms of serving sizes especially prior to a workout. I only like eating half of bars because I know that if I eat the whole thing I won’t feel so hot during a workout, etc. In terms of eating snacks and meals, you are 100% correct that I LOVE looking forward to my next snack or meal, I try to make each thing I eat yummy so yes I do really look forward to my snacks and meals. I’d rather space out my food throughout the day then eat it only in three meals because I am a TOTAL foodie – I admit it, or else I wouldn’t have a blog
I think I remember what day you were referring to about the BBQ but that day I was stuffed because we had eaten a ton at a party earlier that day so I only managed to eat half of what we got for dinner. Honestly I can’t really give you a ballpark because I don’t count. I used to count and it possessed me (this is something that Rhodeygirl & Julz and I had a great discussion about) and it was purely unhealthy. I think if I had to guestimate that most of my snacks are maybe 150 calories each (and I eat snacks 3 times a day) and my meals range from 300-500 depending on the meal and how hungry I am. I guess if you were to factor that in, it would be 1650 calories or so, but honestly I’m not 100% sure how accurate that is. I really try to eat based on how hungry I am. I hope this helps you!

I love your pom seeds! I think they are the most beautiful lookign fruit! (I know that sounds so queer – but it’s true – they almost look like diamonds!)
Have fun tonight!
gina (fitnessista) says:
oooh i love tuna patties! (which is funny, because it’s the only way i’ll eat canned tuna). i haven’t had those in forever- thanks for reminding me!
when i get ice cream with my hubby, i usually go for the fro-yo with chocolate chips mixed in (since dark chocolate is good for your heart and full of antioxidants haha) and then take a bite of what he gets, which is usually some kind of even brownie banana split creation. this way, i still get to taste the good stuff and have my own!
happy friday!

Erin says:
Yum! That Balance bar is my favorite!
I think you should split a little of the good stuff and be satisfied with that, if possible.
Julz says:
*I meant to say I like to add COCONUT (not cinnamon— Since when is Cinnamon unsweetened or sweetened, anyway. Haha)
Julz says:
Hey Lovely Linds!! Happy Friday to you!
Yay for Rejuvenating Mornings! And hooray for spinning
You’ll have to get me to go with you to LA one of these days… I’m terrified but with your support maybe I can overcome my fear. (Sabrina— I”M TERRRIFIED!!! Eep! )
I think the BEST thing to add to fro-yo, especially vanilla, is CINNAMON. A total health boost (Cinnamon is a natural anti-inflammatory and it’s essential oils (from its bark, obvi) can help lessen the impact of a high-sugar or high-carb food on your blood sugar! It’s also loaded with essential vitamins and minerals, including Manganese, Calcium, Iron, and Fiber!) And not only am I a SPOKESWOMAN FOR CINNAMON (Jeeeeez Julz), but it adds amazing flavor, in my opinion. Totally ups the complexity of froyo/ice cream and is so satisfying to my brain and my tastebuds. I like to add cinnamon, a little unsweetened (or whatever the have!) coconut (though it does have some saturated fats, coconut oil is packed with antioxidants, as well, and most people don’t know that the saturated fats in Coconut, are NOT those that raise the LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. Like other vegetable oils, the oils in Coconut are GOOD ONES
Plus, they are good for your skin and hair— HOLLA at da health furr da hurr
It’s fun to add fruit to your froyo, too! And GO for the pb-oreo if you want it! What a TREAT!
jess says:
how is it that pomegranate seeds make everything look decadent? probably how they glisten
haha
I’d probably go with froyo just because I have a bit of a dairy issue with regular ice cream- but a float sounds super refreshing
TGIF!!
