Love Of Oats

A blog dedicated to balancing a healthy and fun life… with oats!

Winner

Since I went food shopping tonight, I wanted to have a quick and easy dinner that required little cleanup :)   The first thing I thought of was:  Aidelle’s Chicken Sausages.  I only had white hot dog rolls that I pulled out of the freezer for Bill, so I just had mine roll-free and dipped it into spicy mustard.  On the side, we had pickles and Ore-Ida crinkle cut fries.  I think this was the first bag of fries I’ve bought since we were married (?), so you can guess that Bill was excited about having real french fries!  I was craving “junk food” tonight so this was my compromise with myself!  And of course we had pickles!

On the side, for our veggie component, we had big green salads.  I topped mine with a new dressing that I found on sale at the supermarket:  Ken’s Healthy Options Parmesan Peppercorn Salad Dressing.  The dressing was really creamy and had a nice kick from the peppercorn!  Before buying, I did a quick glance of the ingredient list and noticed there wasn’t any HFCS, which is really odd for a lower calorie salad dressing… Definitely a winner in my book!  There were a bunch of other varieties that I’m interested in trying too.

Ok  now it’s time to go unload the dishwasher and get ready for LOST!  I’m pumped – I hope its as good as the previews look.

Oh and I must send out a special thank you to my wonderful husband who brought me home Aveeno Stress Relief body wash and lotion as a surprise since I had a stressful day at work.  I used it tonight and it was fabulous and really calming!  I love all Aveeno AND lavender-related products and this one was amazing!

Full Of Favorites

Hi Peeps :)   How’s it going out there?  It’s a warm one here… almost 60 degrees and needless to say I really wish I didn’t have to work today so I could have gone out there and enjoyed it, considering this weekend is going back to the 30′s.  Oh well :(   One can only hope, right?

I started out the morning with a bowl full of favorites:

  • Zoe’s Honey Almond Granola
  • Blueberry Chobani
  • Frozen Blueberries (zapped in the microwave for 30 seconds)
  • Handful of Pecan Halves
  • Blob of PB2

It was a very flavorful, not to mention crunchy, way to start the day!

Mid-morning was oats, ’nuff said, right?  I am so redundant these days…

I definitely continued my “favorites” theme at lunchtime by packing a pb&j on wheat, popcorn, and an apple.  This is by far my favorite kind of lunch :)   Looking back though, I should have subbed my peanut butter with PB2 to see how it faired with jelly!

For some reason, I was starving at all afternoon.  I wish I packed more snacks, I guess that is the downside of packing lunches because if you are having one of those extra-hungry days and don’t have enough food with you, you are stuck :(   Just like I was… I sipped on some candy cane lane tea in the hopes it would warm & fill me up and then finally dug into this guy at around 3′ish before I headed to the gym.  I had half of the bar before my workout and had the other half after my workout.

I bought this Kashi Go Lean Crunchy Cinnamon Coffee Cake bar a few weeks ago after hearing Julz rave about it, but I totally forgot to eat it until I found it in our pantry yesterday so I was pretty excited to eat it :)   Thoughts?  It was yummy and definitely had a sweet taste to it, tasted like icing almost!  I think I prefer the “Roll” bars a little bit better but I think it would have been better crumbled up on top of yogurt or oats.  Eating something that sweet before a workout probably wasn’t the best decision haha…

When I was at the gym, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and headed outta there.  I’ve felt a little tired, groggy, headache-y all day, so I didn’t want to wear myself out.  Luckily, I actually felt better after I left the gym.  After work, I decided to follow ya’ll’s advice about grocery shopping on Wednesdays and headed to Giant.  I really liked avoiding most of the crowds and getting in and out (for the most part, I waste a significant amount of time browsing through Giant’s organic aisle).  I still pick up lunchmeat for Bill on Sunday’s at the deli, but I love going into the weekend knowing that I don’t have to grocery shop!

Ok well now it’s time to get cracking on dinner, so I’ll be back later with my eats… Happy Wednesday!
