Love Of Oats

A blog dedicated to balancing a healthy and fun life… with oats!

First Cookout

Last night marked a monumental occassion:  our first cookout of the summer!  Not only was it our first cookout but it was the first time that Bill and I have ever cooked out (we didn’t have a grill at the condo) and it was the first time using our new Char-broil Commercial series grill!

We prepared a LOT of food and we were really full afterwards.  In fact, we had enough leftovers for two more dinners that I prepped for Bill to have this week since I will be away on work travel.

I purchased boneless sirloin steaks from Genuardi’s and they gave me their steak rub (similar to Montreal Steak seasoning) on the side.  I covered the steaks and let them sit for 30 minutes and then Bill grilled them up.  They were fabulous ~ we both loved the seasoning… I was so full and wanted to save room for the veggies so I ate 2/3 of my steak and gave the rest to Bill.

Then, we sauteed two large green peppers and onions (which made me cry my eyes out!) in a grill pan with a little bit of EVOO… I just LOVE grilled veggies!

And then, my newest creation was cinnamon sweet potato fries.  I sliced a sweet potato lengthwise into long strips and tossed them into a Ziploc bag with 1 T cinnamon and 1 tsp of EVOO.  I let them marinate in the fridge for 20 minutes and then spread them out on a baking sheet and baked for 20 minutes at 350 and then 10 minutes at 400 to get crispy.  They were AMAZING!

Oh yes, and there’s more… I’ve been dying to grill corn on the cob, so we grilled it in the husk and it was delicious!  I loved the little burnt kernels too ~ so smoky & delicious!

I also got to use one of our gifts from our wedding shower last year… I think these corn on the cob holders are too cute… they come in all different colors, so I used the pink ones and gave Bill the blue ones :)   They say “Butter Baby” on them ~ come on, how cute is that haha… When I was a kid, I loved when we had corn on the cob simply because I LOVED using corn holders, I know it’s a weird obsession, what can I say?

Ok well I have to hit the road in about an hour to leave for my worktrip, so I just wanted to give ya’ll a heads up that I will not have email / blog access at all this week.  I will return back to ya’ll on Saturday and have a couple posts/reviews scheduled for ya, so I hope you enjoy and I’ll be back soon.  Have a fantastic week!!!

Definitely putting your cinnamon sweet potato fries on my to-make list. And can dinner get any more summery than a cookout with corn on the cob?? I think not!

    Have a great trip. :)

I wish my boyfriend liked sweet potatoes! I need to work on him some more with that, LOL.

I love grilling and especially grilled vegetables. My new FAVORITE veggie to grill is asparagus. Try it…I thought I didn’t like asparagus until we threw it on the grill…amazing!
