Perfect Deliciousness

Thanks for all the great comments on my last post!  I’m so glad everyone loved the posts this week :)

Today was a perfect day and I got back in the groove of my normal Saturday, which was so nice! I started out on this cold and chilly morning with half a Pure Protein bar on my drive to the gym.

Spinning was great ~ I really missed my gym and especially this great sweaty class!  When I got home, I quickly showered and made up a delicious smoothie concoction:  blueberry oat smoothie!  It included:

  • 3/4 c cooked oatmeal
  • 3/4c frozen blueberries
  • 2 tbsp chocolate whey isolate protein powder
  • 1/3 c almond breeze
  • 1.5 c frozen ice cubes

Blend in the Vita-Mix 5200 and enjoy this yummy blueberry deliciousness!

Around lunchtime we headed to the Philadelphia Convention Center for the Home Show… On the way there I had a Kashi GoLean bar & a clementine.  I know some people don’t like these bars, but for some reason I LOVE them.  I used to be obsessed with them a few years ago – I love the “chew”.

The home show was fun, but not what we expected.  Basically it was a lot of hot tubs and basement waterproofing to sum it up.  However, guess what was there that made it worth it?  A Vita-Mix display and demonstration!  The guy at the stand did a demonstration for vegetable soup, fruit juice, and ice cream made with fruit, carrots, and spinach.  I stood there memorized, until Bill gave away my “cover” and told the guy I already had one!  He probably thought I was nuts, but I just rambled on about how much I love the product.  I swear I should work for them :)   I sampled the ice cream, which was super yummy.  I’m hoping to recreate it soon!

I also bought a crinkle cut slicer that I can’t wait to use this week :)   Is it weird that I go to a home show and come home with food related products?!

Dinner was at Chili’s since we had a gift card.  I ordered the steak fajitas but got served the fajita pita.  After Bill convinced me to finally say something to the waitress about it, she realized it was a mistake and put in the order for my fajitas :)

If you are all curious, this is what a fajita pita looks like…

I ordered a hot tea because it was chilly!

Then, my real dinner came out:  steak fajitas which were fabulous!  To be honest, the onions and green peppers were my favorite part!

Here’s the sides of toppings ~ I used the guac, pico de gallo, and lettuce.

Here’s one of my three fajitas (I didn’t use the 4th tortilla):

When we were at the Convention Center earlier in the day, we stopped at the Reading Terminal, which is probably my favorite place downtown.  We walked around and got some yummy fruits/veggies, but we also picked up this delicious cannoli from Termini’s, which is literally the best bakery ever.  Bill saved the cannoli for after dinner, I was amazed b/c he isn’t a sweet person, but LOVES cannoli’s.  He saved me a bite which I totally couldn’t resist, despite being stuffed.

Now it’s off to watch the rest of Iron Man from last weekend!  Have a fab night guys :)

Watching the Mummers

For as long as I can remember, I’ve spent every New Year’s Day watching the Mummers Day Parade – it’s been a tradition of sorts in my family and some of my family members even go down every year all day to watch it in person.  Bill and I were talking about doing that this year but decided we’d rather stay in all day and relax in our PJs while watching it since we’ve had a busy few weeks.  Maybe next year we will make the trek down, but I’m glad we didn’t today because it is TOO cold!  We even did the Mummers Strut at our wedding!

Our New Year’s Eve was a lot of fun.  We went over our pastor’s house first and met some new people that recently started coming to our church.  We hung out there until about 7:30 and then headed over to our friends’ house for lots of card games, flip cup, and of course beer pong.  I drank water throughout the night, I was going to switch to soda but I actually felt somewhat awake so I didn’t have to.  I snacked/eat a lot of yummy food but didn’t take any pictures – it was too awkward to balance a camera,  a cup, and a plate :)   Once the ball dropped, my friend’s uncle had set up this HUGE air horns attached to a compressor so that they could sound them off once it hit midnight.  They did it last year too, but I forgot how hysterical it really was!

You can tell we are all getting older because around 1am, we were all sitting around playing cards and half asleep!  Bill and I left at 2am and I was completely exhausted, so much so that I slept until 10am.  I honestly cannot remember the last time I did that! I must admit that I got up at 7am wide awake but decided to get back in bed!

Bill got up around 11:30 and I’m sure he cannot remember the last time he slept that late either haha… I waited to have breakfast/lunch with him simply because I’ve been laying on the couch watching the mummers and haven’t been hungry in the slightest – I definitely ate a lot yesterday so I guess I’m still full haha… Our breakfast turned into lunch though because by the time we ate it was 12:45pm!

We started out with coffee…

Then, I whipped up some whole wheat blueberry-banana-pecan pancakes

Here’s a banana filled bite

I also had a Morningstar breakfast patty on the side…

What a perfectly filling and yummy way to start the first day of 2009!

Bill and I have a fun, relaxing day ahead of us.  We are going to take down our Christmas tree (which I’m sad about), rent some movies, live in sweatpants for the day, and have tons of FONDUE later (since we received a new fondue pot)…

What are your plans for today?
