Love Of Oats

A blog dedicated to balancing a healthy and fun life… with oats!

On A Mission

My day started out with a giant mug of coffee because I was determined to be SUPER productive today (and I was!!!)…

After I drank my coffee, I proceeded to have a lighter breakfast than normal and started with a sliced orange and strawberries… perfect for a spring breakfast!

p3302843

Then I toasted up two slices of rye bread and smeared some Skippy Natural on top!

At this point, I was full and headed out to Target to pick up lots of little things that I realized we needed as well as a set of four phones.  We didn’t have a house phone before but we signed up for the Comcast Triple Play package so we’re taking advantage of the VOIP package so now we have a real phone number instead of us just using our cell phones…

When I got back from my marathon Target trip (and buying lots of things that we probably truely DON’T need, but no worries I didn’t go overboard like I usually do!), it was time for lunch… it consisted of a sliced tomato & pepper (yum!) with half of my leftover wrap from last night

p3302855

On the side I needed something to crave my sweet tooth so I had a chocolate underground Stonyfield yogurt with some banana Cheerios

p33028571

Midafternoon I snacked on a Fiber One Chocolate Mocha bar… I received two of these boxes in the mail to sample and despite the fact that it’s filled with funky chemicals and HFCS, it was REALLY yummy… I love chocolate covered espresso beans and this bar brought me back to those memories of eating them with my dad!

Dinner was quick ‘n easy because I was NON-STOP on a mission to unpack and organize!

Started with salad

p3312883

Tomato and mozarella chicken sausage with roasted sweet potatoes topped with cinnamon…

We just went out to go for a run but ran into our neighbors so we turned our run into a quick walk, so now I’m off to shower & get ready for Biggest Loser… I really slacked again on my run (ARGH!!!!!!!!!) but no worries I have it SCHEDULED for tomorrow after work…

Oatty Love

“Oh oats, how I love you”  Yup, that’s exactly what I told my big bowl of oatbran this morning… I whispered it so Bill wouldn’t hear ;)

Before breakfast, I did a quick AM Yoga session courtesy of Meghan Townsend & Exercise TV which quickly stretched me out and woke me up!

I made this bowl of beautiful oats by cooking 1/2 cup of oatbran, water, 1/2 scoop GNC chocolate whey isolate protein powder, cinnamon, and 1/2 c frozen blueberries in the microwave for 2 minutes, stirring, and then cooking for 30 more seconds. Then, I topped it with 1 T ground blueberry flax & 1 T sunflower seeds!

All stirred together in its glorious…

After watching VeggieGirlTV last night, I realized that I probably don’t get enough protein in my diet since I <3 my carbs way too much… Despite the fact that I eat meat, I usually only eat it at dinner and I guess that is not enough, so I wanted to try a little experiment to start tracking my protein intake and make sure that I’m getting it in… After searching online seems like it should be my body weight * .8… This should be an interesting little challenge considering that our fridge/freezer/pantry is pretty much packed up with the exception of oats, nuts, flax, foods for dinner for the next 4 days, etc!  That being said, my protein intake for breakfast was 24 grams :)

My question for you guys is:  How much protein do you focus on getting each day?

After breakfast we headed to church, ran to Lowe’s, and took a quick break at Panera Bread to grab lunch… I had the “You Pick 2″ and chose the black bean soup & the fuji apple chicken salad!

Now, you’d think I’d be energized and ready to devote today to packing, but I’m really dreading it.  Both Bill and I are exhausted… we went to bed at 10pm and slept until 8am, I think packing is wearing us out!  Ok, off to resume packing!
